You may be aware that our volunteer support funding is primarily provided by the Council’s Environmental Levy through the Major Strategic Projects and Programs funding stream. The current four-year program concludes at the end of June this year.

This funding has enabled us to deliver significant support to our volunteers, including the CHRL Volunteer Support Project Officer role, PPE, tools, contractor assistance, and on-ground support for our sites. We are grateful for Council’s past commitment, and we believe this investment delivers strong value for money—returning more than $2.50 in volunteer effort for every $1 contributed.

Update on 2026–2029 Funding

Council has now placed the Draft Delivery Program 2026–2029 on public exhibition.

Following initial concerns around a proposed reduction in our funding allocation, we are pleased to share that this has now been revised. CHRL has allocated funding consistent with the current program, including CPI increases. This outcome was achieved after we presented at the Public Forum prior to the most recent Council meeting, demonstrating the value of CHRL and our volunteers.

We appreciate Council’s willingness to review the initial allocation and maintain their support. This result reflects the strong case made for the environmental, social, and economic value that Landcare delivers across the Coffs Harbour LGA.

CHRL will continue to engage proactively with Council to ensure clarity, fairness, and a sustainable funding arrangement that supports the long-term delivery of our programs.

Have Your Say: Public Exhibition Period

The Draft Delivery Program is now on public exhibition. This is a key opportunity for community members to have their voices heard.

We encourage all members to review the draft plan and make a submission—particularly in support of CHRL’s ongoing funding and the importance of continued investment in community Landcare.

How You Can Support

Community input genuinely makes a difference. Members who value strong environmental and community outcomes are encouraged to lodge a submission during this exhibition period.

Key Points You May Wish to Include

The work delivered by Coffs Harbour Regional Landcare directly supports the MyCoffs Community Strategic Plan priorities reflected in the Delivery Program. Our programs:

  • Support healthy, active lifestyles through outdoor volunteering and community participation

  • Protect and enhance the natural environment through conservation, dune care, biodiversity projects, and environmental education

  • Stimulate the local economy by sustaining skilled coordination roles and engaging local contractors

  • Promote positive ageing and community connection through inclusive volunteering opportunities (with many participants being retirees)

  • Contribute to livable, attractive places by caring for the natural assets central to the Coffs Coast lifestyle and visitor experience

Every Voice Counts, Have Your Say

Even short submissions are valuable, and every contribution helps demonstrate community support. Submissions close 5pm, Tuesday 26 May 2026.

We will continue to keep members informed as further updates become available.

Thank you for your ongoing support of Community Landcare.
