Become the eyes and ears for nature and learn how to explore and contribute to Australia’s living database as a Citizen Scientist and increase your knowledge about what lives in your patch at he same time!

During this hands-on workshop, ecologist and Landcare Coordinator, Graham Tupper, will introduce us to a number of citizen science apps and websites which can help everyone, from beginners to experienced observers, record and identify a range of living things – both plant and animal.  Discover how using these tools to record observations on your Landcare site can help build a picture of how your group’s efforts are contributing to habitat restoration and ecosystem health over time.

We’ll also learn how to take great photos, with simple cameras or smart phones, to show off our subjects to their best effect!

When you register for the event, prior to the workshop you’ll be sent some notes to help you start exploring a couple of Citizen Science websites and their associated apps, so you’re ready to go on the day. For those interested in taking their journey a step further, this workshop will also help get you prepared to assist with upcoming national events on the Citizen Science calendar, including:

– Aussie bird count: 16-22 October 2023

– Frog ID week: 3 -12 November 2023; and

– The Great Southern Bioblitz: 24 – 27 November 2023

Participating in these events means we can all contribute to enriching our understanding of Australia’s glorious biodiversity and how to best to protect it for the future.

Please wear appropriate clothing for this outdoor workshop, as we’ll be walking through the bush, and don’t forget to bring your charged phone/camera!
