Seeking Landholders for Golden-tipped Bat Habitat Restoration!
Do you have land that could benefit from habitat restoration while supporting a unique and threatened species? We’re looking for landholders to participate in a conservation project focused on restoring habitat for the Golden-tipped Bat (Phoniscus papuensis).
This fascinating microbat roosts in rainforest gullies and wet forest types, often in abandoned hanging bird nests or tree hollows. It relies on dense vegetation and intact canopy cover to forage for web-building spiders. Unfortunately, habitat loss, land clearing, and invasive weed species threaten its survival.
With funding available, we’re trialing habitat restoration works to create and enhance suitable roosting and foraging sites for this vulnerable species. If you have a gully, degraded rainforest, or wet sclerophyll forest on your property—or an area that could help connect fragmented habitat—we’d love to hear from you!
What We Are Looking For
✅ Weed infested areas (eg lantana or weedy vine thickets) of rainforest or wet sclerophyll forest along gullies or riparian areas where the removal of weeds will allow clearer flyways for the Golden-tipped Bat.
✅ Habitat that lacks structural elements such as intact canopy and narrow flyways that are required by the Golden-tipped Bat.
✅ Areas that contribute to linking existing Golden-tipped Bat habitat
What This Project Will Focus On:
🌱 The main focus will be Lantana and exotic vine and scrambler control which are Key threats to Golden-tipped Bat Habitat and significantly impact on their ability to forage and roost and on habitat health in general.
🌱 As a secondary priority this project may also undertake targeted revegetation works to restore canopy cover, increase the size of a suitable vegetation remnant or promote connectivity between remnants.
We understand that your property may not meet all these criteria, so get in touch to discuss suitability!

On ground project activities will take place between June – late August 2025.
