Simon Proust - Korora Landcare

Korora Landcare has been eradicating Mother Of Millions (Bryophllum spp) behind Hills Beach at Korora in the Coastal Reserve. A native perennial of Madagascar, Mother of Millions was introduced as a garden plant – sound familiar. The plant has a pretty pink flower and grows to 30cm and is commonly found in sandy soils. Its name says it all as it reproduces plantlets very quickly from the edges of leaves.

Bags of Mother of Millions

Korora Landcare group with 11 bags of Mother of Millions

Management is challenging, with the most effective technique being hand pulling. The succulent plants are bagged which are very heavy and then dried out and burnt courtesy of Jeff T.  from our Landcare group, who lives on an acreage. It is not recommended to dispose of plants in green waste bins. From our last two working bees we have collected 22 bags of Mother Of Millions and feel that we have almost knocked it over, though being a perennial it will need ongoing maintenance and follow up weeding.
