In acknowledgement of the vital role the work of Landcare volunteers play in the local environment, Council has extended it’s support until 2026.

This funding allows our Landcare staff to continue to support volunteers, providing funding for equipment , PPE and training both onsite and in workshops.

CHRL has delivered 3 workshops recently to assist volunteers in their training and bush regeneration skills. The events were well attended with a final workshop still to be held in the New Year (details TBC).

Tool Sharpening Workshop was held on the 20/10/22. The workshop was held at our office in Lawson Crescent. Local bush regnerator, Tom Burke, presented on the day. The workshop participants went home with new blades and sharp edges, along with the skills to maintain tools.

Introduction to Bush Regen workshop was held on 29/10/22. The workshop was held at our newest Landcare Site – Woolgoolga Creek Landcare. The workshop participants were all new volunteers, who have recently joined CHRL. We covered the principles of bush regeneration and provided an introduction to weed control.

Seed collection workshopSeed Collecting workshop was held on 12/11/22. The workshop was presented by our Nursery Coordinator Peta Fairbairn, held in the field around Woolgoolga Lake. The workshop covered the basics of seed collection and will hopefully ensure that some of our volunteers can identify seed at their Landcare site and assist with seed collection for our nursery.

Additional events have also been held, and we would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the volunteers who participated to make these events a success.

NPWS HIIT Day at Emerald Beach Dunecare was held on the 16/10/22. Volunteers targeted the weed Senna to protect the littoral rainforest adjacent to the Landcare site. The day drew 20 volunteers, including CHRL members and NPWS volunteers.

Sawtell Tree Planting Day was held on 15/11/22. An additional 80 trees were planted on Boambee Headland, with assistance from Sawtell Dunecare volunteers and Aaron Hartley’s Coastal Works team. The day followed the initial planting provided by GeoLink, assisting the ongoing recovery efforts following the hail storm damage in 2021.
