Bringing Biodiversity Back: Strengthening Our Local Landscapes

Coffs Harbour Regional Landcare (CHRL) is excited to launch the Bringing Biodiversity Back project—a vital next step in restoring and protecting our region’s natural environments.

Building on the success of the Creating More Resilient Landscapes project delivered in 2024–25, this new initiative focuses on critical follow-up weed control in buffer zones surrounding seven key Landcare sites on Council-managed and NPWS-managed land. These areas are home to sensitive ecological communities that need ongoing care to thrive.

Why is this work so important?
Previous Environmental Levy funding allowed CHRL to tackle weed encroachment in unmanaged areas, supporting volunteer efforts and improving site resilience. But weeds don’t give up easily—without follow-up, they quickly return. This project ensures we consolidate those gains, suppress re-emerging weeds, and protect the biodiversity we are working so hard to restore.

What will this achieve?

  • Reduce weed pressure on vulnerable habitats.
  • Strengthen native biodiversity and ecological resilience.
  • Support the hard work of our volunteers on their Landcare sites.
  • Deliver long-term, climate-resilient restoration outcomes across our local environment.

Together, these actions will help create healthier landscapes for wildlife and people alike.
