The Emerald volunteer team resumed working bee sessions for 2023 in early February doing some maintenance weeding on the foreshore patch behind Emerald beach south of Fiddamans creek – extracting Senna, Lantana, Bitou Bush and the smothering “Mile A Minute” weed vine. These all reinvade from time to time and would take over the beach front if not held in check.

Emerald Beach Landcare/Duncare Update

Pandanus seedlings were also planted to help stabilise the grassy dune area behind the beach and to provide more shade in the future. This is in an area that was burnt last year (an illegal escaped fire) exposing the fragile sandy soil and was quickly mulched to avoid erosion over the summer. Thanks to young Jack (the son of one of our volunteers) for growing the pandanus seedlings.
