Over 100 hours of weed control have been completed in recent months to improve the resilience of a patch of endangered Lowland Rainforest on a private property in the Orara Valley. CHRL engaged bush regenerators to carry out the work which is funded through Jaliigirr Biodiversity Alliance’s Landcare Led Bushfire Recovery project ‘Protecting Lowland Rainforest in Coffs Harbour & Bellingen LGA’s. This weed control work will free up the natives in the remnant allowing them to grow and regenerate without weed competition. Lowland subtropical rainforests are incredibly species rich and provide vital habitat for many native species including threatened fauna such as Grey Headed Flying Fox and the Wompoo & Rose Crowned Fruit Doves. Land clearing for argriculture has greatly reduced the extent of these rainforests.
