CHRL through our partnership with the Jaliigirr Biodiversity Alliance will be helping our local koala population over the next 6 months by improving the health of two remnant patches of local bush known for their high value as koala corridors. Bush regeneration at Tree Fern Creek, west of Joyce St and Roberts Hill between the Reserve and the highway will reduce weeds impacting on the native vegetation and improve koala movement through the sites.

On site project planning at Tree Fern Creek

This project will also support the newly formed Tree Fern Creek Landcare group and and hopefully encourage the formation of a new Landcare group at the Robert Hills site to continue on with this valuable work. If you are interested in joining either Landcare group please contact the CHRL office.

This project is a collaboration between the Great Eastern Ranges, Jaliigirr Biodiversity Alliance and WWF Australia. It aims to restore the health and resilience of habitat for Koala, greater glider and other forest dependent native species in response to the devastating bushfire crisis of 2019/20. The collaboration will see a series of coordinated, complementary projects to restore habitat and support movement of wildlife, taking place in the Coffs Harbour region of the Great Eastern Ranges. This project represents an addition to the larger GER project ‘Cores, Corridors and Koalas: A Collaborative Approach to Restoring the Forests of Eastern Australia.
